Common Questions and Answers
Does the fitted sheet have a deep pocket?
A: Yes, the pocket is 18” deep with elastic all the way around the edge, not just at the corners like most sheets. This way whether you have a Tempur-Pedic® or a pillow-top mattress, the fitted sheet will stay snug and never pop off. If you've ever wondered how to fold a fitted sheet, watch our video.
Do I wash them like I would cotton sheets?
A: Rayon from Bamboo is best cared for by washing in cold or warm water and drying on low to medium heat. Proper washing will extend their life; you can expect to get 3-5 years from your linens with proper laundering. Using hot water and high heat can cause any linens to pill, which are the uncomfortable bumps you’ll see on some sweaters. Also, rayon has some bacteria resistance so if you are used to using bleach to kill any bacteria, there is no need to do so with bamboo, a great benefit for your health and the environment!
Do they shrink?
A: Rayon from Bamboo will shrink a little the first time that you wash it, but we’ve deliberately over-sized our products to allow for shrinkage and the perfect fit.
What happens if the sheets accidentally get washed or dried with high heat?
A: You won’t harm them, but they may shrink just a bit. If you repeatedly do this, however, you may cause the linens to pill, so it’s recommended to always wash and dry on cool to medium heat.
How long will they last?
A: If you use only one set, when cared for properly, our sheets typically last for 3 years. If you rotate between several sets of bed linens, they will last about 5 years.
Does the color ever fade?
A: No, we have used reactive dye to keep the colors deep and true.
Can I buy extra pillowcases?
A: Yes, the set comes with 2 pillowcases (1 for Twin size), but if you need additional sets click here.
How does your pricing compare to other rayon from Bamboo linens?
A: BedVoyage offers some of the lowest pricing for rayon from Bamboo linens in the country, it was important to us to offer the best price possible so that many people can experience the luxury of bamboo. We also have a fabulous collection of sizes and colors.
Can I hang my sheets to dry?
A: Yes, you can. Once they are dry, if you’d like to keep the silky softness just toss them in the drier on low-medium for 5-10 minutes.
Do they wrinkle much?
A: They will get a soft wrinkle when you sleep on them, but they will never get a hard crease like cotton sheets do. We have chosen not to coat our linens with formaldehyde, which is what the cotton industry does to make them wrinkle-resistant, as we want to offer the most eco-conscious product we can.
Can I iron them?
A: Yes, you can iron them if you like. You can even iron them on high with steam. But another trick is that if you dry them on high for the last 10 minutes of the cycle (if you forgot to take them out immediately) they will come out smooth.
My husband has oily skin; will the sheets get stain marks from him?
A: If they do, try any of the following, or view our video:
- Prewash the sheets with ¼ cup Dawn dish washing liquid and then launder as usual, Dawn is a natural degreaser.
- Spray Oxy Clean or a chlorine free stain remover directly onto the stain and then launder as usual.
- a mixture of 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water, sprayed or poured onto the stain, should remove the stains during laundering.
My partner sleeps hot, but I sleep cold. Will I stay warm enough?
A: Yes, one of the remarkable qualities of rayon from Bamboo is that it’s thermal regulating. What that means is that if your partner is hot, the micro-gaps and holes in the fibers release his or her heat, but it’s like a ‘smart fabric’ and it knows you are cold and keeps your warmth in around you. read more
My pets sleep on the bed with me, will the pet hair come off of bamboo?
A: Yes, when you launder the fur will come off, or you can use a lint roller between laundry days. Remember rayon from Bamboo has some antibacterial properties so your linens won’t accumulate the same amount of smell that cotton might, and rayon is anti-static so it won’t cling to pet fur and other lint like cotton will. And because we use a twill weave for our sheets, they’re less likely to snag with pet claws than plain, satin weave sheets or knit sheets.
Do you have to use a special detergent?
A: Yes, and we would recommend a mild liquid detergent like Ecos, Mrs. Myers, Woolite, Seventh Generation, ECover, or Kirkland Ultra Clean, no bleach, no fabric softener, and no washer balls or dryer sheets/balls. We have noticed that harsher detergents can break down the fibers faster, shortening the lifespan of the linens.
Are these so slippery that they won’t stay on the bed?
A: No, our sheets get softer and cozier when you wash them, not like the old 70’s satin where all your bedding slid off onto the floor!!
Will your sheets fit my 22” deep mattress?
A: Our fitted sheet is 18” deep so it will only fit if you have a mattress that has a 2-3” pillow top sewn onto the top and bottom of the mattress. This means that our fitted sheet will tuck into the pillow top bottom insert and stay on.
What is the thread count?
A: Typically you choose a high thread count sheet to maximize your sheets’ softness, but thread count is not the most important factor in how soft a sheet is; the material from which it’s made is the most important factor. This means that our 300 thread count sheets are softer and cost less than many sheets with a much higher thread count, additionally a thread count of 300 for bamboo is very high. We want to keep the breathability of the linens, but if you 'feel' them they will feel like 1,000 thread count Pima cotton. read more
Is Bamboo Viscose and Rayon from Bamboo the same thing?
A: Yes, the process of breaking down the bamboo stalk into a fiber is the same for both viscose or rayon. Because the end fiber is indistinguishable from other wood pulps (ie; eucalyptus, beech wood, pine, etc) the Federal Trade Commission requires that it be called one of those terms. We have chosen rayon from Bamboo to be in line with what most large retailers are using, so that consumers are not confused. read more
Where are the linens made?
A: BedVoyage linens are manufactured responsibly at the largest home textile factory in China. Our factory has passed a stringent 25 point review process by many US retailers, as well as yearly passing the Social Responsibility Audit. This ensures that workers aren’t children or over-worked, are paid fair wages, and work in an environment where there are safeguards in place to ensure their health and safety. We are proud to be processing our bamboo in such a responsible factory!
Do the duvets have ties in the corner?
A: No, we chose not to have ties as we found that a down comforter will still sag in the middle of the duvet regardless of whether you tie the corners or not. So simply grab the duvet once a week and give it a good shake to re-center your comforter. If you'd like to see the easiest way to insert a comforter, view our video.
Do I need to wash the duvet before I use it?
A: We recommend it, as our linens are made oversized so they will shrink to fit. Do MAKE SURE to zip your duvet closed prior to laundering, which will maintain the integrity of your zipper.
What do I put in the duvet cover?
A: You can use a down or poly-fil comforter, a blanket, quilt or afghan. Really anything you choose!
Will a Cal-King comforter fit into a King Duvet?
A: Yes, it will. A Cal-King is a bit longer and more narrow, so you will have a bit of extra drape on the sides of the bed.
