Bamboo is the ideal fabric to help you achieve a good night's rest, because its hypoallergenic and feels so comforting against the skin. Bamboo also absorbs moisture, and is a breathable fabric which helps to keep your head cooler when sleeping. Its also kind to your face and hair while you slumber!  We've slightly oversized the pillowcases for easy pillow insertion.

VERY IMPORTANT:  wash the pillowcases BEFORE using to allow for the shrinkage that happens during the first washing of bamboo. We’ve over-sized the linens to allow for that shrinkage, so if you don’t wash first; you’ll think they’re too big!

Laundering: wash the pillowcases in cool to warm water with a gentle liquid detergent, and dry on low to medium. Give them a hard shake before putting in the dryer, this will smooth them out before drying. Removing immediately will reduce wrinkling.  WEIRD fact: Bamboo comes out of the washer feeling stiff and canvas-like, that’s normal so don't worry that you've harmed your linens!

Detergents:  avoid liquid chlorine bleach, fabric softener, dryer sheets, and washer or dryer balls. Harsh detergents can do damage to fine linens, and bleach can weaken the rayon fibers, reducing the life of your sheets. Fabric softener and dryer sheets can leave a film on the fabric, reducing the moisture-wicking properties, and dryer sheets can cause discoloration. Washer and dryer balls can cause pilling.

Stains:  For facial oils, you can pre-wash or soak the pillowcases with ¼ cup of Dawn dishwashing liquid, as Dawn is a natural degreaser, then launder as usual.  As soon as you see an oil stain, pre-treat so that the stain is not ‘set’ in the dryer.  For all other stains, you can Spray Oxy Clean, a chlorine-free stain remover, or Grandma’s Miracle Spot Remover directly onto the stain, then launder as usual.   Or a mix of 1-part white vinegar to 4-parts water, spray or pour directly onto the stain, then launder as usual.

Do I wash them like I would cotton pillowcases?
A: Rayon from Bamboo is best cared for by washing in cold or warm water and drying on low to medium heat. Proper washing will extend their life; you can expect to get 3-5 years from your linens with proper laundering. Using hot water and high heat can cause any linens to pill, which are the uncomfortable bumps you’ll see on some sweaters or low-quality sheets. Also, rayon is resistant to bacteria, so if you are used to using bleach to kill any bacteria, there is no need to do so with bamboo. A great benefit for your health and the environment!

Will bamboo pillowcases shrink?
A: Rayon from Bamboo will shrink a little the first time that you wash it, but we’ve deliberately over-sized our linens to allow for shrinkage and the perfect fit. If you want to occasionally force your linens to shrink (for tighter fitted pillowcase) simply wash on hot and dry on high every 4-5 washings.

How long will they last?
A: If you use only one set, when cared for properly, the pillowcases typically last for 3-4 years. If you rotate between multiple sets of our linens, each will last 5-6 years.

Does the color ever fade?
A: No, we have used reactive dye to keep the colors deep and true.

Can I hang my pillowcases to dry?
A: Yes, you can. Once they are air-dried, you can toss in the dryer for 5-10 minutes if you need to get any ‘crispness’ softened.

Do they wrinkle much?
A: We don’t coat our linens with formaldehyde, which is a wrinkle-resistant toxin that the cotton industry uses. Therefore, they will get a soft wrinkle where your head lies, but with each fresh laundering, they’ll come out of the dryer silky smooth again.

Can I iron the pillowcases?
A: Yes, absolutely, and even with high heat and steam. A little trick to reduce ironing: dry the pillowcases on high for the last 10 minutes of the cycle and remove immediately, and they will come out smooth.

My husband has oily skin; how can I get oil stains out?
A: Prewash the pillowcases with ¼ cup Dawn dish washing liquid and then launder as usual, Dawn is a natural degreaser. The sooner you do this, the better, before oil stains set in the dryer.

Do you have to use a special detergent?
A: We recommend a mild liquid detergent like Ecos, Mrs. Myers, Woolite, Seventh Generation, ECover, or Kirkland Ultra Clean. No bleach, no fabric softener, and no washer balls or dryer sheets/balls. Harsher detergents can break down the fibers faster, shortening the lifespan of the linens.

What is the thread count?
A:  Thread count is something that many linen-shoppers look for, usually opting for higher counts, expecting more softness. But thread count is not the most important factor in how soft a linen is; the material of the threads from which it’s made is the most important factor. This means that our 300 thread count pillowcases are softer and cost less than others with a much higher thread count, additionally a thread count of 300 for bamboo is very high. We’ve opted for the ‘sweet spot’ of 300 thread count as this will have incredible softness AND keep the breathability of the linens, although they’ll feel like 1,000 thread count Pima cotton. read more

Is Bamboo Viscose and Rayon from Bamboo the same thing?
A: Yes, the process of breaking down the bamboo stalk into a fiber is the same for both viscose or rayon. Because the end fiber is indistinguishable from other wood pulps (ie; eucalyptus, beech wood, pine, etc) the Federal Trade Commission requires that it be called one of those terms. We have chosen to call them ‘rayon from Bamboo’ to be in line with what most large retailers are using, so that consumers are not confused. read more

Where are the linens made?
A:  BedVoyage linens are manufactured responsibly at the largest home textile factory in China. Our factory has passed a stringent 25 point review process by many US retailers, as well as yearly passing the Social Responsibility Audit. This ensures there are no child workers, employees are not over-worked or underpaid, and work in an environment where there are safeguards in place to ensure their health and safety.  We are proud to be processing our bamboo in such a responsible factory!
